The Gift Of Jesus’ Peace (John14:27)

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.

In this world you will have trouble.

But take heart! I have overcome the world.

You have heard Me say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’ 

If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ for My Father is greater than I.

“And now I have told you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe.

I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me.” (John14: 27-30)

Jesus is promising us to give us His peace cause He is the king of peace, and the devil, the prince of this world, has nothing in Him.

Jesus is the source of life, the eternal life, and without Him we are dead in our sins.

We the believers must remember that the devil, our enemy, is running after us day and night to tempt us to fall in sin and be separated from our Lord and creator. 

He is a fallen angel who envies us being created on the image and likeness of the Son of God, Jesus Christ. 

But Jesus in the same Gospel, verse twenty-seven, said, “I leave my peace with you.

I give my peace to you.

I do not give it to you as the world does.

Do not let your hearts be troubled.

And do not be afraid.” (John14:27)

Here, Jesus is assuring us not to be afraid from that enemy and be troubled.

Why?

Because if we hold fast to Him and be united with Him, He will fill us with His Holy Spirit, the Spirit of peace.

In Him and through the His Spirit we will overcome this enemy and he will have nothing in us like Jesus.  

In the book of Revelation, chapter three, we read, “Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown.

He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more.

I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God.

And I will write on him My new name.” (Revelation 3: 11)

Now, Jesus is telling the whole world, here I am!

I stand at the door and knock.

If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and give him my life and peace. 

May we all open the door for the Savior of the world, the Son of God, Jesus Christ, to come in our hearts and fill us with His life and peace, and to free us from the slavery of this murderer who came to kill and destroy us.

May we all humble ourselves and repent for having our unbelieving hearts that turn away and reject the living true God.

May we all realize the great privilege we have to receive Jesus’ overcoming power over sin and death in the Holy Spirit. 

Jesus is the only way, the truth, and the life.

He is our shield and protection.
