Today's Devotional

We Are Made Alive Together With Christ (Colossians 2:14-15)

“when you were dead in your sins … God made you alive with Christ.

He forgave us all our sins, having cancelled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.

And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.” ( Colossians 2:14-15).

The good news of the New Testament is that God the Father had sent His Son Jesus Christ to abolish and destroy the devil’s works and not to do the devil’s work of killing and destroying. 

In the Gospel of St. John, chapter three, he said, “But the Son of God came to destroy the devil’s work.” (1John 3:8).

He loves sinners and He came to our world to defeat the devil and conquer him for our sake.

The word of today’s reading assures us that Father God made us alive with Christ.

He forgave us all our sins, having cancelled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us.

Jesus, the incarnated Son of God, has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.

To those who say why the Lord did not come to save us from the evil one?

I’d like to tell them that what they are saying is not the truth.

The Lord came to our world to save us, deliver us from the bondage of sin and all the evil’s works.

He defeated the devil and confronted him on the cross, and He disarmed his weapons of his powers and authorities over us and made a public spectacle of them in order to give us His victory over him and set us free from him. 

Jesus triumphed over satan by the cross and cast him into the abyss. 

If we have a relationship with God the creator and His Son, the source of life and light, and we submit our lives to Him, accepting Him as our Lord and Savior, we will receive His life in us and He will give us power to overcome this enemy.

We will overcome the evil spirits of death, hatred, fear, lust and anxiety and we will be filled with Jesus’ life, love, peace and joy.

Amen.
