Today's Devotional

Let Us Not Grow Weary While Doing Good

“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.

For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.

And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.” (Galatians 6: 7-10)

Doing good works or caring for others is a wonderful expression of love. 

Caring for a loved one is one of the important ways of serving our Lord, Jesus.

Jesus calls us to love each other as He loved us.

His love is a sacrificial love which we cannot give to others unless we are in full unity with Him.

He gave us Himself to the point of death.

We may think that caregiving is a very simple and easy way to serve Jesus, but actually it is one of the most physically, emotionally, and spiritually demanding kinds of work we can do.

It can leave us stressed and feeling isolated, burnout, and overwhelmed. 

But if it is a call from God to care for a loved one, and we respond to His call with joy and love of giving and devotion, Jesus will come and help us and He who will do the work, lifting up all the burden from us.

He will do it for us perfectly and successfully.

We have to do the work willingly and joyfully to please God and not to show in front of people that we are good, or that we can do the work perfectly and better than others, or waiting for praise from people. 

Jesus sees every sacrifice we make to love others and He does not expect us to sustain this role in our own limited strength.

In Him and with Him we can do the impossible.

He said come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

When we feel we have nothing left to give, we ask Jesus and He will give us His strength.

Amen.
