Today's Devotional

Be Without Blemish As Our Savior Jesus Christ (1Peter1:15-19)

“But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.” And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear; knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” (1Peter1:15-19) 

We are called to be holy as Jesus, our Lord and Savior, is Holy. 

St. Peter explained the meaning of the word (holy) by saying (without blemish and without spot.)

In other word we are called to be sacred, morally blameless, and consecrated.

Jesus wants us to be consecrated for His use.

He wants us to be holy for His purpose.

St. Paul in his epistle to the Ephesians, chapter one, said, “For He chose us in him before the creation of the orld to be holy and blameless in His sight.” (Ephesians 1:4)

He also said in his second epistle to his disciple Timothy, chapter one, “He has saved us and called us to a holy life, not because of anything we have done but because of His own purpose and grace.” (2Timothy 1:9)

It is an obligation for us to be holy in all our conducts which means that our behavior and manner of life should reflect holiness because our Lord is holy. 

Our lifestyles should be distinguishable from unbelievers and match our faith. It is not an easy task in this age because everything around us tempts us to live in a worldly manner which is not pleasing to our Lord, Jesus.

But we have the overcoming power of Jesus over sin which He has given us in the Holy Spirit that help us to overcome all these temptations.  

We should resemble Him and take after Him. 

To be holy we need to be on guard against harboring hate, anger, and resentment in our hearts.

We need to be filled with His holy love to one another and should be quick to forgive and spread the love of Jesus everywhere we go.

We, the children of God, all our hope is to fulfill our vey precious calling to be holy as Jesus is holy and to be glorified with Him. 

Amen.
