What Is The Key To Live A True Christian Life? (1 Peter 3:8-11)

“Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing. 

For he who would love life And see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips from speaking deceit. 

Let him turn away from evil and do good;

Let him seek peace and pursue it.” (1 Peter 3:8-11)

Being filled with the Holy Spirit let Jesus’ love and life overflow from us to others. 

So what characterize our Christian life are the fruits of the Holy Spirit been shown in us. 

Some may have grown up in the church, but never truly gave their lives to Christ and they may think that just going to church is enough to live a Christian life. 

Others may think that the Christian life is no different from any other life, as long as they are “good persons”. 

Another kind of people may feel that when they do a long legalistic list of rituals, by this they are living a Christian life. 

But in today’s reading, St. Peter is giving us the main features of living a true Christian life. 

We should be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling. 

Also if we are seeking to see good days, let us refrain our tongues from evil, and our lips from speaking deceit. 

Let us turn away from evil and do good; Let us seek peace and pursue it. 

All these features we cannot attain them unless we are united with Jesus, our Lord, in the Holy Spirit. 

There are three principles that we should follow to be united to Jesus and live in Him a true Christian life. 

First to choose to receive Him by our own free will and be filled with His eternal life. 

Second, by loving Him from all our hearts and minds and love our brothers and sisters. 

Third, by obeying His voice, as He said that the sign of loving Him is obeying His commands. 

Forth principal is, by abiding and holding fast to Him. 

Amen.
