Love Is The Foundation Of Our Faith (1Corithians 13:1-3)

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.

And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.

(1Corithians 13:1-3.)

God is love.

Love is the foundation upon which everything else is built in our spiritual walk with our Lord, Jesus Christ.

St. Paul is teaching us that without love, the work we do is not profitable for us.

Love is very essential to holy living.

We cannot be holy without been filled with the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of love.

We cannot love anyone without Him.

The love that flows from us should be pure, without hypocrisy, a healing balm that soothes the tired, angry, and depleted soul.

But we have to know that to have this gift of the holy love we should have forgiving hearts full of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, and forbearance.

Been united with Jesus and been filled with His holy love we need to be on guard against harboring unforgiveness, anger, and resentment in our hearts.

We should be quick to forgive and spread the love of Jesus everywhere we go.

We have to show love and forgive even when the recipient does not deserve our love.

Also we have to love others first, even when we do not feel like or want to love them.

St. Paul gave us the way and the rule to be filled with God’s love in his epistle to the Colossians chapter three saying, ”Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, long-suffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.

But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”(Colossians 3:13-17.)
