We Must Be Free From The Indwelling Of Sin (1Peter 2:11)

Brothers and sisters, we have a duty.

Our duty is not to live under the power of sin.

If you live under the power of sin, you will die.

But by the Spirit’s power you can put to death the sins you commit.

Then you will live.” (Romans 8: 12-13).

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of purification.

So in order to be holy  and sanctified we must be filled with the Holy Spirit.

We submit  ourselves completely to His work in us to be able to change us to the image and likeness of Jesus.

When we are filled with the Holy Spirit we get united with Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

The sign that we became united with Christ is that we choose by our own free will to put off all the old ways of our lives, reject all the worldly tempting thoughts that may sadden and quench the presence of the Holy Spirit in us.

Another sign is that we pray without seizing, asking for the strength in the Holy Spirit to give us the power to resist all the evil powers and to abide to Jesus and obey His words and commands.

St. Paul is telling us that we have a role in this procedure of our purification and that is not to live under the power of sin.

Our role is to accept and choose to live a new life and renew our minds and thoughts.

We must be away from anything that would weaken our decision and be always in the places and around people that would help us to be united with our Lord in the Holy Spirit and abide in Him all the time.

St. Peter advices us in his first epistle saying,  “Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul”( 1peter 2:11).

When we are filled with the Holy Spirit we will be controlled by His law which frees us from the law of sin that brings death and will give us Jesus’ life, the eternal life.

When the work of the Holy Spirit succeeds in us, we become the great conquerors over all the evil powers.

We can say with St. Paul, “Now In all these things we are more than winners! We owed it all to Christ, who has loved us.

I am absolutely sure that not even death or life can separate us from God’s love.” ( Romans 8: 37).

We all must strive to come to this point that nothing can tempt us to sin and we lose our purity which separates us from Jesus’ life and love.

Amen.
