Today's Devotional

We Must Be Free From The Indwelling Of Sin (1Peter 2:11)

“Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh.

Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. 

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.“ (2Corinthians 5:16-17)

When we take the decision with our own free will to submit ourselves to Jesus Christ, we think that this decision means we will make ourselves perfect in front of His eyes.

But this is a misunderstanding of the meaning of submission to Christ. 

The truth is, Jesus does not want us to repair ourselves, but wants our hearts. 

He wants to take us just as we are and he builds something completely new. 

We do not have to clean ourselves up to come to Him, instead, trust in Him that He will be able to change and perfect us in His Holy Spirit.

We must know that our change and our purification is the work of the Holy Spirit in us.

So we do the first step, to submit our hearts to Him, and He will do all the work and will change us to His image and likeness.

Jesus said in the Gospel of Mathew that for where our treasures are, there our hearts will be also.

This means that the heart is the door that opens for thoughts to enter.

If they are thoughts of the Holy Spirit, this will make us filled with the fruits of the Spirit, but if filled with worldly and evil thoughts this will lead us to sin.

We just need to submit our hearts to Him sincerely. 

In the Gospel of Mathew we learn that for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. 

All we have to do is watch our hearts and always be sober and aware of what has entered into our being, so that we can quickly fix the situation and submit the heart to the hand of the Lord by fully surrendering to His work in us and receiving the new nature and His eternal life in the Holy Spirit.
