The Heart Revealed Through Actions (Mathew 15:18-19)

In the Gospel of Mathew, chapter fifteen, verses eighteen and nineteen, we read, “The things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart.

Those are the things that make someone unclean. 

Evil thoughts come out of a person’s heart.” (Mathew 15:18-19).

Our actions reveal what is in our hearts because that’s where actions begin. 

Wrong thoughts result in sinful actions. 

Society teaches us that the environment around us, the circumstances we live in, our families who brought us up, are all the causes for our sinful desires. 

So we think we are victims who just fell into the hole been dug for us, and we are not responsible for being sinners. 

This deceitful policy leaves us more vulnerable to being captive to our sinful desires. 

The truth is that our evil desires tempt us. 

And when we allow these bad thoughts to remain in our minds, they lead to sin, leading to death. 

We are the ones who open our minds to the tempting evil thoughts, and we are responsible for everything that enters into our thoughts or bodies. 

St James confirms that in his epistle, chapter one, saying, “when a person is tempted, they shouldn’t say, “God is tempting me. 

God can’t be tempted by evil. And he doesn’t tempt anyone. 

But each person is tempted by their own evil desires.

These desires lead them on and drag them away. 

When these desires are allowed to remain, they lead to sin. 

And when sin is allowed to remain and grow, it leads to death. 

My dear brothers and sisters don’t let anyone fool you.” (James 1:13-16).
