The Cost and Reward of Following Christ

Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 

For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 

For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? 

Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 

For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works.” ( Mathew 16:24-27)

Jesus explains to His disciple the two basic steps to walk the path of following Him. 

The first step is to choose with free will to follow Him. 

The second step and the most important one is to deny yourself and take up your cross. 

It is a call to self-denial and self-sacrifice.

One must be willing to die in order to follow Jesus. 

It is not dying physically or emotionally but to die to self which is an absolute surrender to God. 

To Die means forsaking your old, sinful ways and receiving the grace of the new nature and His eternal life. 

We have to reject all the lustful desires of this world and sin. 

To say NO to all the Devi’s temptation.

After Jesus commanded cross-bearing, He said, “For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 

For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? 

Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” 

Although the temptations of the devil are strong, the world has nothing for us as followers of Jesus. 

An eternal reward where rust nor moth can destroy, awaits us when we lose our lives for the sake of receiving Christ’s life, love and peace. 

Are you ready to take up your cross and follow Jesus no matter the cost? You know that following Christ means you may lose your closest friends, your job, or sometimes your possessions. 

As disciples of Christ we must be willing to suffer loss, if faced with a choice, Jesus or the lusts of this world. 

But the reward is worth the cost.  

We are promised that In Christ we will have life eternal. 

We will be glorified with Him. In Christ, we not only find forgiveness of our sins, but we find life eternal, life abundant. 

Thank you Jesus for giving us your life and you saved us from death and sin.
